KEYTIPweb (KEYTIP5) is a "talking Chinese-English dictionary" for the Chinese web, independent of KEY5. KEYTIP works directly on a Chinese web page in your browser. With KEYTIP installed and active in the background, pointing at Chinese text in the IE or Firefox browsers on your screen (such as a Chinese website) displays the English meaning of the Chinese words and reads them aloud in Mandarin (Putonghua).
Inserting the KEYTIPweb CD-ROM into the drive of your computer displays the Autorun panel. Click on the items on the panel, installation is automatic.
In order to become permanently enabled, the program requires a one-time authentication through the Internet server of Asia Communications. When installing KEYTIP, make sure your computer is connected to the Internet, and from Start/ Programs/KEY Software click on the KEYTIP item and follow the instructions (enter the license number which is printed at the bottom of the label on the CD holder). After this one-time validation you will not require any further Internet authentication or registration. - If the computer where you install KEYTIP is not connected to the Internet, please contact us by email at risingsun@msn.com, quoting the license number on the label; we will email you the code for manual authentication.
When the KEYTIP icon (red square) appears in the system tray (right lower corner of your screen), you are ready to go. To see how it works, you can now use either IE (Internet Explorer) or Mozilla Firefox to go to a Chinese website of your choice.
In IE: Right-click on the area below the IE toolbar and make sure the checkbox "KEYTIP5" is checked. Then point at the Chinese text, and you should hear the reading, and see the English meaning of the words displayed in a small pop-up window.
In Firefox: when you start Firefox with KEYTIP for the first time, it will let you register KEYTIP5 as a browser plug-in. After that it will work on Chinese websites.
To give it a quick try, you can go to a Chinese website such as www.peopledaily.com.cn, or www.chinatimes.com.tw and point at the Chinese text there. KEYTIP works on both Traditional and Simplified Chinese character text.
KEYTIPweb works on all versions of Windows 2000, NT, XP and VISTA (including the localized Chinese Windows platforms).
Attention VISTA users: To make KEYTIPweb work on your computer, go to the Control Panel, "User Accounts …" and turn User Account Control OFF.
