Welcome to AsiaCom's Chess Page
February 2, 2008 - Update: the Java code has been modified and compiled with Sun's Java compiler version 1.6.0.4 - it should now work with Safari as well as IE and Firefox. I'm not running the server on a regular basis so service will be hit and miss.
November 11, 2004 - Update: the server is working again. Both the Java client and WIN32 client work now.
March 12, 2004 - Update: The server has been moved. It will be a while until I can get the Java applet working again. In the meantime, the WIN32 client should work ok.
March 3, 2002 - Update: I had to shutdown the Chess Engines (but kept the Chesse Server running) because 1) they were somewhat unstable and were crashing the computer and 2) even when they worked they require more CPU power than I currently have. I have included the TCP/IP wrapper code for the Chess Engines in the download so if you want to experiment ... I wish you better luck than I had.
January 5, 2002 - Update: You can now schedule a game between two Chess Engines and watch the them battle it out.
January 4, 2002 - New: Chess Engines (WinBoard/XBoard protocol) now supported. Now you can play against the computer. I currently have four Chess Engines running BETSY 5.26, BEOWULF 1.8, PEPITO 1.42 and CRAFTY 18.12. I will add more in the future as computer power permits.
January 2, 2002 - Update: I have restarted my chess server because of a renewed interest generated by a Java chess client that my nephew helped port from C++. Click here to start the Java applet (or here). If you want to run the old WIN32 .EXE version of the client, download it here. Of course, you could always connect directly to the server using telnet.
If you are a programmer and want to write your own client/server program, or are just interested in seeing how it's done, the VC++ 6.0 source code and Java source code for the programs has now been upgraded to Bearware status and may be downloaded and used free of charge. No warranty is given for this program. I’m not responsible for the consequences of it’s use. And, I retain a copyright on all the code but give permission for it to be used freely in whole or in part. All I ask is that you send me some email stating how far it has traveled. (It would be nice if you gave a donation to a charity in my name if it is used commercially.) Please do not redistribute the source code, but rather, give people this URL and allow them to download the most recent version (besides, I like to keep a hit count on the downloads). If you want to put it on a CD or your website, please contact me directly. Otherwise, enjoy.
Included: Committee Chess: A multi-player Internet Chess game where you vote for your favorite move and the majority rules. To play, you vote on the next move of the game and the move with the most votes wins. There is a 30 second time limit on registering you vote after a quorum of a 2/3 is reached. If you votes agree with the winning votes you get the maximum score of 100%. Test you skill against other players. If you are the only player in a game, you get to set up the pieces any way you want then wait for the fun to start.
Please report all problem and comments to wamckee@msn.com.
